Young people telling their story through the pictures of their minds eye. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then there is no better way for this generation to be seen and understood by the world...Or to learn about each other and what the world has to offer by engaging with peer generations around the planet...

The Giving Planet facilitated three photography workshops in various corners of the world. Students were given digital cameras, and asked to capture the essence of what they would like the world to know about them and their lives. The photos were then presented to the community at large, so that all could understand the world through their eyes. Click here to explore their worlds.
“The (Giving Planet) curriculum material spoke strongly to me and represents much of what I believe in as an international educator...the exchange that happened between the students and teachers, all of us from disparate worlds, was fascinating and exciting. Sharing ideas, explaining perspectives from diverse cultures, finding commonalities and appreciating differences, and ultimately identifying with one another as shared stakeholders in a problematic world; the face to face interaction and deliberation of these grand ideas was in and of itself a profoundly moving experience.” - Diandra Jones, Teacher in Ghana “ I believe this program is timely and necessary as the world is becoming a smaller place and we need to ensure a greater level of understanding between different cultures.” - Maura Clancy, Teacher in Ghana
“ It was apparent from the students’ enthusiasm and involvement that they do not have any other program like this. The students were very happy to be a part of the program...” - Abubakari Kassum, Teacher in Ghana.
“ The Giving Planet taught me that with the meditation
you can forget all the problems and make your heart a peaceful place" - Linda Denkyi, Student in Ghana
"The purpose of the meditation was...to make us
feel peace in our heart. We can create peace with our own two hands.” - Joycelyn Owusu, Student in Ghana
“ I think the Giving Planet must move around the
world to unite countries and people. This will help bring peace and stability
all over the world.” - Ibrahim Sackey, Student in Ghana
“ I now feel like someone who has a valuable role to
play in the world because I believe this program would help me to show the
world what I can bring to the world.” - Harriet Sefa, Student in Ghana
The students in Chicago studied excerpts of Elie
Wiesel’s famous 1999 speech “The Perils of Indifference”. In response,
Meaghan states: “ Mr. Wiesel teaches that taking action and speaking out
against evil is important...if the world had responded more quickly (to the
atrocities of the Holocaust and Nazi Movement) and with more love the world
would be a much better place...Indifference is caused by ignorance.” -Meaghan Nichols, Student in Chicago
Anna also responded to the study of Elie Wiesel’s
work... “ Mr. Wiesel teaches that doing nothing and turning your back on a
(social) problem is dangerous...history could have been different but people
were too afraid to get involved. Ignoring the problem (the Holocaust) was
extremely dangerous and is as bad as the cause of the problem.” - Anna Rich, Student in Chicago |
